Bakthi - Kanthar Sashti Kavasam: Sing

By Sri Skanda's Warrior of Light

December 20, 1999

Yesterday night, I had a vision of myself at Sri Durga Temple with my mother. The curtain was left open for the adhimoolam of Lord Murugan. The curtains for the other vikgrahas, such as for Ganesha and Amman, were closed. I was standing with my hands together waiting for the priest to come. Then, my uncle (Sri Skanda Rajah), a person's form who Murugan sometimes uses, came into the temple bare-chested wearing a white veshti. He instructed me to,"Sing."

I replied,"Sing what?"

He said,"Anything."

When I opened my mouth, the words of Kanthar Sashti Kavasam came out. My mother sat down in front of me and also started to sing. I, however, continued to sing without lyrics, while my uncle (Murugan?) stood in front of me smiling. He was swaying side-to-side as I sang. I, however, ignored him thinking of him as only my uncle and focussed my eyes on the vikgraha of Lord Murugan. I then awoke.

I then realized that my uncle was a projection of Lord Skanda. He assumed that form, which I would readily recognize to be him. My uncle's name is, thus, named after Lord Muruga. His peculiar attitude and mannerism in my dream hinted to me that it was not my uncle who appeared in my dream. From this day onward, I started to sing Kanthar Sashti Kavasam everyday.
