Download Notes (re: Panniru Thirumurai audio collections page)

By Sri Skanda's Warrior of Light

The following audio & PDF files are provided as tools to help you learn the important Panniru Thirumurai pathigams listed. They are not sung by professional singers and are thus, not meant for your listening pleasure — instead they are sung with love and devotion to God in the most basic rhythm (i.e. without the many 'aa-aa-aa's, 'na-na-na's, etc. heard from professional sangeetham singers). The primary objective is to help you quickly learn the songs so that you may reap the benefits (which are stated at the last verse of each pathigam) by chanting them.

There is a common obstacle that some devotees face when trying to learn these sacred pathigams — other experienced musicians discourage these devotees from learning these songs stating, "they must be sung with the proper rhythm, pan, thala, etc." And it is because of this reason that these sacred songs are rarely being sung in temples anymore. Musicians aim to please the people who attend their performances, while devotees aim only to please God. Moreover, the only prerequisite expected of the devotee from God is true sincere devotion — not musical proficiency. Anyone who disagrees with this point can refer themselves to the study of the lives of The Sixty-three Nayanar Saints or obtain specific references in the Panniru Thirumurai works stating otherwise.

The numbers listed under the column "Thirumurai" refer to songs taken from files listed on the Panniru Thirumurai (full-text) page. And the names in parentheses after each Thirumurai heading [i.e. THIRUMURAI 1 (SAMBANTHAR)] refer to the original composer of the work.

Skandagurunatha.org wishes to gratefully acknowledge Shaivam.org, Thevaaram.org, ProjectMadurai.org, and Sri Siva Pa. Satgurunathar Desikar (Mayilaapur) for lending their talents to the preservation and propagation of these invaluable works. You all have our deepest gratitude, appreciation, and thanks!

Please read the following link as it contains important information to ensure that you can correctly download and view the files listed below. Please note that many of the files listed are large in size (ranging from 7MB to 28MB) and are only recommended to those with high-speed internet access.
