Kali Ma

By Hilda Charlton

Kali Ma reveals herself as a fierce figure depicted with long, flowing, loose hair and a dark complexion. In one hand she holds a symbolic sword with which She destroys evil. She is the Universal Mother in the aspect of the consumer of negation, the lower human nature.

This picture is from the shrine at Dakshineswar, Calcutta, India. The full force of the power of Her inner light is felt at this shrine where Ramakrishna Paramahansa officiated as a priest in his early youth.
